The Sgt. David James Smith Memorial Golf Tournament raises funds to support an annual scholarship in David’s name for a graduating Frederick High School senior, but mostly supports the needs of our veterans. To date, over $395,000 has been issued to support veterans and scholarships, with an endowment fund established for the scholarships. The Sgt. David J Smith Veteran Relief Fund was established in 2021 for emergent needs of Frederick County Veterans. The funds are administered through The Community Foundation of Frederick County. The tournament is organized by David’s family and friends. The Sgt. David Smith Memorial Fund is our way of honoring David and others who served. We know he would be proud.
Separately, East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina established The David J. Smith Leadership Award in the College of Technology and Computer Science in 2010. Each recipient is asked to live up to the values David lived by: Leadership, Integrity, and Service.
